Meet the therapist - Tai Pimputkar lcsw:

Hi, my name is Tai.

As a therapist, I combine my expertise with a genuine care for people's wellbeing in order to best meet each client's unique needs.  I work to put clients at ease, allowing them the safety and understanding necessary to make deep and lasting changes in their lives.  I have experience with a diverse range of clients, and I specialize in the treatment of anxiety, stress, PTSD/trauma, and relationship issues.

I offer a safe, quiet, and comfortable office space located in Norwalk CT, which clients have described as relaxing and contributing to their ability to seek help.  In addition to my office in mid-Fairfield County CT, I offer teletherapy video and audio conferencing sessions to clients located throughout Connecticut and Ohio (as I hold licenses to practice therapy in both CT and OH).  Confidentiality and emotional safety is of the utmost importance, and I understand that it is a primary factor that allows clients to feel safe when seeking help.

I use a combination of therapeutic approaches to help my clients including a combination of Psychodynamic insight-oriented talk therapy, EMDR Therapy, IFS Therapy, and Sand Play Therapy.  I meditate regularly and bring my understanding of Mindfulness / Awareness practices and spirituality to my work as a therapist.  I understand that integrating implicit and explicit memories, thoughts, feelings, instincts, and meaning all serve to help clients to live more fully.

I want my clients to feel good about the way they are treated.  I offer a professional and confidential atmosphere with on-time appointments, flexible scheduling including night and weekend hours, accept credit cards as well as other forms of payment, and offer ethical business practices.

When you walk in, you are allowed to settle down, and leave the rest of the world outside.  This is your time.   I work collaboratively with you to understand your goals, needs, and pacing of therapy, and how my expertise and experience can help you meet your needs.

tai's story:

I am originally from Ohio, but have considered Connecticut my home base since 2005.  I have degrees and previous work experiences as both an engineer and a finance professional.  Given this, some people wonder how I got here, or why I choose to work as a psychotherapist.  The short answer is that I view this work to be my life's work.  It is what I am meant to do, and I am lucky to do meaningful and powerful work as a therapist.  It is truly a privilege and honor to help my clients live the lives the want.

Believe it or not, some of the most valuable training I have had for being a therapist came from having been an engineer.  My training in that field taught me patience and skill at solving complex problems -- traits that are vital to working as a counselor.

Having worked in the traditionally male-dominated fields of engineering and finance, and then the traditionally female-dominated field of social work, I am grateful for having learned a tremendous amount about working with very different people and in very different environments.  I believe that this diversity of experience has provided me a basis from which I strive to understand and empathize with others.

I have had the unique privilege of varied academic and professional pursuits, and consider myself lucky that I have been able to move between left-brained and right-brained occupations.  The varied disciplines I have mastered have enabled me to gain a depth and breadth of understanding of people and places, that I consider to be an asset in working as a therapist.
